There are a lot of staples of the music industry that were once the topic of great discussion. For instance, did you know that there is actually a reason behind the length of a CD?

In the late 1970s, Philips and Sony were in the process of developing the compact disc format. The original prototype from Philips held 60 minutes worth of music. Sony however, insisted that they extend the length. Ultimately, Philips and Sony used the length of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony to determine the length of the compact disc, 74 minutes.
